Carmela Luongo (nee Di Spirito) the matriarch of our family, has left us to join the Lord at 94 years young.
Carmela was a woman like no other: a leader, a mentor, a provider. She was beautiful. She was strong. She nurtured us, fought for us, believed in us, took pride in us, and, above all, loved us unconditionally. There are not enough words to describe how important she was to her family and what a powerful influence she will continue to be.
Forever blessed and proud to be her children: Francesca Zumpano and Elio & Rosanna Luongo. Cherished always by her grandchildren: Leanna (Elio), Julianna (Mark), Laura (Vincenzo), Domenic (Catrina), Stefano (Emma), Carmela (Michael), and her eight great-grandchildren. Touched by her presence in their lives, her many nephews, nieces, inlaws, and paesani. She was a treasure to all.
Awaiting her with open arms those who went before her: parents Ferdinando and Carmela Di Spirito; the love of her life and husband, Domenico Luongo; brothers Carmine, Antonio (Gina), and sister Anna (Paolo) as well as many family and friends whose lives she touched during life’s journey.
Special thanks to “Dawna Bella”, the caring staff and doctors of Unit 8A/B at Vancouver General Hospital and all the family and friends who gave so much love and support to Carmela in her final months.
Prayers will be offered at 7:00pm on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at St. Helen’s Parish, 3860 Triumph Street, Burnaby, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Wednesday, March 28th, 2018 Entombment to follow at Ocean View, Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St.Helen’s Church to continue her ongoing support of the parish and her unwavering faith. Dio ti accompagna per sempre.
