Obituary of James « Jim » Krasovec
KRASOVEC, JAMES MIRKO
The twinkle went out of Jim’s blue eyes on March 22, 2018 after valiantly coping with the ravages of a devastating illness for the past 8 months, Jim passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the St. Catharines Hospital. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Patricia, his sister Wendy (Russell), his brother Anthony, his nieces Rita (Dave), Rebecca (Donny), Rachel and Ramona (Pete) and their families. Jim was predeceased by his father Anton, his mother Ljudmila and his sister-in-law Joan. Fondly remembered and missed by Patricia’s family in England and so many relatives and friends in Slovenia -too numerous to mention.
Jim was born April 2, 1941 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, moving to the Niagara region with his family at age 5 and eventually settling on the family fruit farm in St. Catharines. After graduating from Ryerson, Jim worked for 34 years in the metal finishing industry before retiring in 1996 and moving to Haliburton in 1997, spending many happy years in “cottage country”. It was there that he learned to square dance – and enjoyed the fun, friendship and travel that it brought for the next 20 years. His heart was always in the Niagara region and he moved back home in 2009 where he was able to contribute to the Slovenian community by volunteering at Lipa Park and continue dancing with the Rainbow Squares in Niagara Falls. Jim was loved for his great sense of humour which was in evidence right to the very end.
Family, friends and guests are welcomed to the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Sunday, March 25, 2018 from 2-4pm & 6:30-9pm for public visitation. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 26, 2018 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 169 St. Paul Crescent at 11:00am with burial to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
His family would like to thank all of the nurses on the Oncology Ward of St. Catharines Hospital for their care during Jim’s last days – and the doctors and nurses of the Walker Family Cancer Centre for their compassion and care in treating Jim during his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations to Pancreatic Cancer Canada or The Walker Family Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family.
