Obituary of Jim Tunks
A resident of Chatham, Jim Tunks died peacefully at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Wednesday March 21, 2018 at the age of 93.
Born Aldborough Twp. Elgin County, son of the late Gordon and Bertha (nee Bandeen) Tunks.
Beloved husband of the late Shirley (nee Taylor) Tunks.
Adored father of Paul Tunks and Pamela & Andrew Cornell, all of Chatham.
Loving grandfather of Mackenzie Cornell & Taylor Cornell.
After serving in the Navy during WWII, Jim and Shirley lived in Ridgetown and Chatham where Jim began as a contractor then owned and operated a building supply company. During their leisure they spent time at their cottage in Rondeau Park and were winter residents of Sanlan Ranch in Lakeland, Fla., for many years. Jim had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Kiwanis Clubs of Ridgetown and Chatham, the Royal Canadian Legion, the Masonic Lodge, the Ridgetown Golf and Curling Club, the Chatham Granite Club and the Thames Horizon Shuffleboard Club.
Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Michael Maroney of First Presbyterian Church officiating.
Private Interment in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.
Donations made by cheque to Canadian Cancer Society or First Presbyterian Church Building Fund appreciated.
