Hazel Doris Carson March 1st 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Hazel Carson (nee Evans) announce her passing, on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at the age of 88 years. Hazel was born on March 8, 1929 in Red Deer, Alberta.
She is survived by and will be remembered with love and pride by her 6 children and their families: Greg (Barb) of Bentley, AB; Murry (Dawn) of Calgary, AB; Clarke (Madeleine) of Kelowna, B.C.; Susan (Rick Morson) of Courtenay, B.C.; Carol Olson (Al) of Millet, AB and Scott (Barb Oberst) of Penhold, AB; 25 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Thornton (Bob); mother, Minnie; father, George; brother, Bill; brother, Roy, sister, Joyce; son, Terry; and grandson, Tal.
Hazel attended school in the Horn Hill area and met her husband, Thornton, when she worked at Gaetz-Cornett Drug and Book Store in Red Deer Alberta. They were married in 1949 and started their family, first in Red Deer then moving to Penhold, Alberta in 1959. Hazel worked many years for the Hudson Bay in Red Deer, retiring in 1990 and starting her own business “Hazel’s Camera Exchange” in Red Deer, which she successfully ran and sold when she fully retired in 2000. In 2006, after 47 years, Hazel & Bob moved from the family acreage in Penhold to Horizon Village in Red Deer. Hazel then moved to Bethany Collegeside and finally to Aspen Ridge.
Hazel was active in the community and an avid member of the Rotary Club of Red Deer. She enjoyed her sports (Red Deer Rebel’s season ticket holder), camping, gardening and cooking. She loved her family and was a wife and mother first, selflessly nurturing and guiding us, creating a happy home with many fond memories. She taught us throughout life the importance of family and responsibility to our community, she was always generous in her advice and mentoring. Her core values were integrity, respect, hard work and excellence in everything you do.
Hazel was well known, and her strong character, sharp wit and great sense of humour will be greatly missed by her many friends and family. Her memory will be cherished by all those who knew her.
A Celebration in Memory of Hazel will be held at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 18 Selkirk Boulevard, Red Deer on Friday, May 25th at 2:00 P.M., with Reverend Don Hennig officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations in memory of Hazel to a place where Mom enjoyed volunteering and hosting family dinners. Please visit “Friends of Sunnybrook Farm Society” at: www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/friends-of-sunnybrook-farm-society/
