It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Margaret Lachman (nee Wachowicz) of Athabasca, (formerly of Edmonton and Lamont) on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at the age of 76 years.
Survived by her loving husband Hilbert; children: Jackie (Darryll), Jim (Cathy), Barbara (Robert); grandchildren: Ashley, Jeff, Paige, Angelica, Brody, Eric, Grayson, and Tegan; siblings: Albin, Stanley, Mary, Anthony, Thomas and Cecilia.
She was predeceased by her parents, Tom and Frances Wachowicz, and siblings, Ludwig, Stanley, Helen, John and Elizabeth.
Marge met the love of her life, Hilbert while working at the CIBC bank in Lamont. They were married in 1963 and three beautiful children soon followed. They lived in Edmonton for many years before moving to Athabasca for work. They fell in love with the area and the people, purchased some land and built a log cabin. This beautiful get away became the centre of many family and friend gatherings. She thoroughly enjoyed her time there, whether it was to tend her garden, bake bread in her piec, or to entertain treasured family and friends. Marge most loved spending time with her family, and being the youngest of twelve siblings, her family tree was large. She embraced each member and had a way to make each one feel so special and cherished. She spoiled her grandchildren as often as she could and enjoyed the nature walks, telling ghost stories and jokes, playing the accordion for them, catching fireflies, and preparing an endless variety of food. She loved watching them grow up and was so proud of them, like jewels in her crown. Friends and neighbours will always remember her generosity through the food and homemade wine she would make them, the produce from her garden she would share, how she would babysit their children and just by showing her vibrant sense of humour. Marge’s kind and spirited soul will be truly missed by all fortunate enough to know her.

Marge’s family gives a huge heartfelt thank you to the amazing staff at the U of A Hospital and the Athabasca Health Centre for the most wonderful and gentle end of life care she received the past couple months. The nursing staff in Athabasca went above and beyond and they showed such loving care and attention not only to our mom but to us as well. Thank you for recognizing what a special and unique soul she was and thank you for all the comfort you provided her.
