Obituary Overview
Ruth Catherine (Thomas) Stevens
Ruth Catherine (Thomas) Stevens, aged 92, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2018 after a brief illness in Florida. Ruth was born October 2, 1925 in Halifax NS, the youngest daughter of the late Howard D Thomas and Eliza J Cross. She married the love of her life Arthur Alfred Stevens on June 15, 1946 in the Woodlawn United Church, Dartmouth, NS, where she was a lifelong member. They raised four children through many Canadian Military Bases before returning home to Dartmouth, NS. She was the rock and inspiration to her family, adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She could often be found playing cards with Matt, playing Bingo at the Seniors Center or spending time with her friends and family at The Berkeley in Dartmouth. She still enjoyed her winters in Florida, where she and Art had so many wonderful times. She enjoyed family and friends visiting, sitting in the sunroom and making fresh orange juice for her grandchildren. She will be missed by her children, Ron (Rose) Stevens of Mississauga, Ont., Karen (Lee) MacRae, Wendy Jacobs and Shelley (Ron) Maxwell all of Dartmouth, NS. She was loved dearly by her 6 grandchildren Kim, Jennifer (Steve), Cheryle (Brian), Michelle (Paul), Matthew and Meaghen, her 8 great grandchildren Ryan, Christopher, Kaitlyn, Kaylee, Taylor, Emily, Allison and Madelyn, many relatives, and close friends. She will be missed by everyone she has left behind, but joins her loving husband Art, parents Howard and Eliza and siblings, Dorothy, Grace, Lillian, Blanche, Marion, Aubrey, Stanley, Clifford, Samuel and Willford in Heaven. Ruth may have passed, but has not gone away, she and Art will walk beside us every day. The pennies they send and the sunflowers that grow remind us they’re near, still loved, still missed and very dear. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Ruth’s life will occur at a later date at the Woodlawn United Church. Memorial donations can be sent to Easter Seals directed to New Leaf Job Skills and Workplace Training Program, Dartmouth Adult Service Center (DASC), War Amps or the charity of your choice. Thank you to the doctors and nurses who took care of Ruth in her final days. Your care and kindness will not be forgotten.
