It is with heartbreak and sadness the family of Helen McLaughlin announce her passing which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday February 9th, 2018. Born in Bishops Falls, NF she was the daughter of the late Clem and Elizabeth (Healy) McLaughlin. Helen was a talented hardworking waitress who worked for TOPS uptown for many years. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who enjoyed playing darts, knitting, crafting and Bingo. Her greatest love were her grandchildren her proud title was “Nanny Helen” and “Nan” .Helen had a great sense of humour and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by sons Darren McLaughlin of Enfield, NS, Phil Curran Jr. (Lilly) and Terry Curran both of Thompson, MB; daughter Christa Curran (Chris) of Kingston; sisters Betty Austin (Cyril) of BC, Yvonne McLaughlin of Saint John and Marie Dwyer of Grand Falls, NF; nine precious grandchildren Courtney, Jordon, Cherylyn, Tiffany, Jared, Kaitlyn, Tanisha, Lucas and Carmalyn; four great-grandchildren Austin, Isaac, Vaida and Logan; all her “Tops” Family fellow co-workers and patrons many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and feline friend “Lilly”. Along with her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband Phil Curran Sr.; grandson Jonathan Curran; brothers Clem, Jack, Gerry and Jim McLaughlin and her sister June Carey.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). By Helen’s request cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday February 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Followed by a reception. Donations in Helen’s memory can be made to charity of the donor’s choice.
