LEO JOHN DEGNER was called home to be with HIS LORD February 4th at 9:45 pm. He had a long and fruitful life and passed away a few days short of his 95th birthday with his wife Lylliam by his side.
LEO was born in Fort Macworth, Saskatchewan on his parent’s farm and grew up helping his Dad with the chores. He was a hard worker and learned how to build and repair machinery.
During the WWII Leo served overseas in England, Germany and Holland as an Aero Mechanic repairing the engines of the Mosquito Bombers.
After the war Leo lived in Smithers BC for more than 40 years. Leo accepted The Lord a bit later in life but was able to work for His Lord as a builder with Mission Aviation Fellowship in Africa. He helped with the building of hangers where they do the maintenance to the airplanes that the volunteer pilots used to transport medical staff and patients to the hospitals. He was a volunteer at Upper Room Mission building and was part of the Board of Directors for 10 years. He traveled extensively to Africa, Australia, Belgium and Colombia.
In 1992 both he and his wife Lylliam moved to Vernon BC and both became members of Faith Baptist Church. Leo helped in the construction of the new Church building.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Fred Dyck, the hospital staff at Vernon General, and the care aids, nursing staff and Physicians at Heron Grove who took very good care of him.
Leo was predeceased by his parents Otto and Mabel Degner, his 2 older brothers Fred and George, his younger brother Bill and his 4 children Carleen, Gary, Allan and James.
Leo has left us a legacy of FAITH, MISSIONS and LOVE, always wanting to be a good Testimony to others, to work for OUR LORD always with a tender heart and deep Love.
He will be missed and always present in our hearts.
The funeral will be on Saturday February 24th at 11 am at Faith Baptist Church in Vernon BC, at 3908 – 27 Street Tel 250 545 7700.
