William J. “Bill” Murphy 86

It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our father, grandfather and brother, William James “Bill” Murphy, age 86, on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Halifax on April 12, 1931, he was the son of the late William J. and Pearl (Smith) Murphy. Bill worked for a number of years as a salesman for Heinz in Halifax and then was transferred to North Sydney where he later worked for Don Ray Lumber until his retirement in 1995. Bill loved music, playing his guitar and was a big Blue Jays fan. He loved watching movies, enjoyed travelling to Florida and spending time with family at their cottage in River Bougeois. He had a quick wit and a great sense of humour. He will be deeply missed.
Bill is survived by his son Peter (Alice), Sydney Forks and daughter Michelle “Shelly” (Dan) Magee, Lawrencetown, his three grandchildren Katie, Chezzetcook, Kimberly and Peter, both in Sydney Forks, his sister Elaine (Harry) Banfield, Hamilton, sisters-in-law Mary Sampson, Kay Sampson, both in Ontario and Lorraine Murphy, Lower Sackville, many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his wife Eileen, his brothers-in-law Ernest & Henry Sampson and George Murphy.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney will be held at a later date under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
