Kathy was born in Toronto, Ontario and moved to the Comox Valley in 1968. She graduated at GP Vanier in 1971 and furthered her studies at St. Joseph’s in Victoria where she became a registered nurse in 1974. Her career began in Comox then took her to Edmonton, Victoria and finally brought her back to Comox for the last 31 years.
Those who knew her would describe her as cheerful, hardworking and chatty. She was always up for a good conversation and was a natural, nurturer, filled with motherly advice. Even acquaintances were put at ease by her familiar tone, knowing nod and overflowing kindness. With seemingly endless energy, she could easily facilitate a family dinner, care for a friend in need, or ease the anxiety of a stranger who found themselves in the middle of a stressful hospital stay. Her patients would ask for her by name and if the nurses couldn’t get an IV placed, they would ask “Where’s Kathy”?
Her nursing abilities overflowed into her personal world and those who knew her, regularly called on her expertise when a medical need arose. The need was always answered with a method or medicine or just a friendly, “big sister” like ear.
Though Kathy’s time here was cut short, and some dreams left unfulfilled, she fit so much good into her 64 years.
She is survived by so many people that were important to her but more to the point, those whom she was most important to. Kathy, you will be forever loved and surely missed by all who knew you.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Emma Rimell.
