OBITUARY
Duncan Louis Searle, age 68 of Toney River, Nova Scotia passed away January 29th, 2018 at the Victoria
General Hospital in Halifax, NS.
Born in Truro, Nova Scotia, he was the Son of John “Jack” Alfred Searle and Neilia Cora (Cameron) Searle of Caribou River, Nova Scotia. Duncan had an accomplished professional and academic career which started when he graduated from Mount Allison Universityin 1971 with a double major in chemistry and math and a minor in economics while enjoying varsity football, basketball and volleyball. He was presented with the Don Norton Memorial award for making the greatest overall contribution to university life. He received a masters degree in education from Dalhousie University and later studied as a commonwealth fellow at the university of London, England, where he earned the title of Associate of the Institute of Education. Duncan spent the majority of his career at Cobequid Education Centre teaching grade 12 economics, but his impact as a coach and mentor was not limited to his students. His sage and thoughtful advice was a benefit to all who knew him. He was a strong and independent man of great character and integrity who was never afraid to forge a new path, forever driven by his ethical nature to do the right thing. Survived by the one love of his life, his wife of 42 years, Leslie Ann (Lake) Searle. Also survived by his sons Luke (Stephanie), John (Amanda), Sam (Amy), brother Bill, his grandchildren Cameron, Maximus, Scarlett, Catherine, mother in law Robin “Booie” Lake, sister in law
Sarah Jane (Lake) Conklin, Ronda (Lake) Parker, Brook Searle and Gail Searle, brother in law Tor Conklin and many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Predeceased by parents Jack and Neilia, brother and friend Steve, brother in-law and friend David Parker and his father in law Harold Lake.
A gathering will be held Saturday February 3rd at 2pm to celebrate Duncan’s life. Located at Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia. A family gathering will be held in Toney River in the summer as well. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation, which was instrumental in helping Duncan’s brave fight with cancer. Online condolences may be
