Obituary of Lawrence Burkholder
BURKHOLDER, Lawrence Edward
July 19, 1945 – January 25, 2018
Entered into the presence of the Lord on January 25, 2018 in his 73rd year surrounded by his family. Devoted husband of Lois for 46 years. Caring father to Ed (Glenna), Phil (Carly), and Steve (Stephanie). Loving Grandpa to Dylan, Maddy, Sawyer, Weston, Avery, and Eli. Brother to Muriel (the late Ken Hansford), Helen (the late Ken Cressman), Mary, Art (Doreen). Will be missed by his many nieces and nephews.
Lawrence lived all of his life in the Markham/Stouffville area. His was the fifth generation family to farm Lot 10, Concession 9 (Homewood Farms). He was an ordained Mennonite Minister who served as a Pastor at Cedar Grove Mennonite Church and later Wideman Mennonite Church. Lawrence obtained his Masters of History at the University of Toronto followed by a Masters of Theological Studies from the University of Waterloo (Conrad Grebel). He published many articles in theological journals as well as the book “The Leviathan Factor” in 2017.
Lawrence’s passion for ministry focused on sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone he met, from the pulpit to the dialysis chair. As such, donations to the Kidney Foundation and Emmanuel International would be most appreciated.
A visitation will be held at Dixon-Garland Funeral Home, 166 Main St. N. (Markham Rd., Markham on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A funeral service will be held at Rouge Valley Mennonite Church, 7452 Reesor Rd, Markham on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 2pm. Burial will take place at 1pm in Cedar Grove Cemetery, located beside the church.
