Patricia Rymes 2018

Patricia Rymes
RYMES, Patricia (nee Shields) of Swift Current passed away peacefully at The Meadows on December 25, 2017. Pat was born at home in Sceptre, SK on December 1, 1930. She enjoyed small town life in Sceptre, where she completed her schooling. She moved to Swift Current and took a bookkeeping course, and obtained employment in the accounting department at the Experimental Farm (Swift Current Research and Development Centre). It is there where she met and fell in love with Peter Rymes, and they were married on September 16, 1952. Within a few years, she and Pete began construction of their home, where Pete still lives today. In those days, dancing was an important part of life and Pat was an excellent dancer, be it a waltz, fox trot, two-step or polka. Pat was also a very good curler and skipped many successful teams. As well, she loved the game of bridge and was certified as A Master in duplicate bridge in 1967. She was a homemaker and dedicated her life to nurturing her family. Family gatherings, the majority hosted by Pat and Pete, were very special. She was a great cook and enjoyed gardening and canning, knitting and crossword puzzles. The family spent many summer holidays camping in Cypress Hills, Banff, as well as many other campgrounds in Alberta and BC. In later years, she and Pete enjoyed trips with friends to Arizona, the Maritimes, New Orleans, Disneyland and the Netherlands. Pat and Pete took up golfing and spent many enjoyable (and sometimes frustrating) hours golfing at Chinook, Cypress Hills and Medicine Hat. She was a sports enthusiast and loved watching baseball, curling and golf on television. She was a life-long fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. Patricia is lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Peter; their children Robyn (Brian) Wilkins, Stephen (Olga) Rymes and Patti (Brian) Dalby; five granddaughters Pamela (TJ) Runnalls, Joanne Wilkins, Katie Wilkins, Lindsay Rymes and Lisa Rymes; great-grandson Keiran Runnalls; sister-in-law Margaret Morton; cousin Madeleine Lecuyer, along with numerous nieces, nephews and good friends. She was predeceased by her parents James and Lois Shields, sister Laura Shields, brother Jimmy Shields and his wife Joan, sister Mildred Nikirk and her husband Cec and brother-in-law Harold Morton. The family would like to thank the nurses, CCAs and staff of The Meadows in Swift Current, House 18, for their outstanding care and kindness to Pat over the past year and a half. A private interment service will take place at Mount Pleasant Burial Park in the late spring. Donations in memory of Patricia may be made to The Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan. Warren’s Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
