Obituary for Doris Jean Szentimrey (Gingrich)
Passed away with family by her side at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 83 years of age. Beloved wife of Joseph Szentimrey for 62 years. Dear mother of Cindy (Wayne) McComb, Erica (Ken) Lane, Amy (Peter) Vingerhoeds and John (Lynn) Szentimrey. Lovingly remembered by her 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by daughter Carol in 1964, by sister Donna in 2009 and brother Derwyn in 2005. Doris was a skilled seamstress, avid gardener, and proud mother and grandmother. She worked as a bookkeeper at Scroggins in Galt before raising her family. As the family farm expanded, Doris helped with the administrative duties and accounting. Although she struggled with rheumatoid arthritis for decades, it seldom slowed her from being crafty and creative. Doris believed in being a good neighbor, and often magically appeared with a casserole or jar of preserves. Doris was a long-time member of the Branchton Women’s Institute, and enjoyed getting together regularly for lunches and field trips with her dear friends. Family will receive relatives and friends and Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Blvd., Cambridge, on Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with interment following at St. George Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
