Stanley Lawrence Cook
February 28, 1921 – January 4, 2018
Stan passed away peacefully at the Selkirk Hospital. He was born to Jeff and Edith Cook in Riding Mountain, Manitoba, the second eldest of 6 children ( Bill, Ben, Harold, Dorothy and Edith) and spent his childhood on the family farm. During WWII, he was very proud to serve with the RCAF as part of the Burma Bombers, flying out of the Cocos Islands in the Indian Ocean. On his return from the war, he met and married his loving wife of seventy years Dorothy Elizabeth Simpson on June 30, 1947.
Stan was a carpenter by trade, but finished his working career as a building inspector for the City of Winnipeg.
He was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman, particularly enjoying curling, golfing, fishing, hunting, sailing and skiing. He loved to tell stories, some of them pretty tall ones, and his luck at crib was undeniable. He loved to spend time with family and friends. He cherished the time that he had with his grandchildren. Stan is survived by his wife Dorothy, his son Ben (Susen), and his daughters; Valerie (Dan) and Donna. He had six grandchildren; Jasmine, Silene (Sacha), Emily(Doug), David, Sophia, and Oliver. One of Stan’s sisters, Edith Black, also survives him. Stan’s ever helpful and warm personality will be missed by his neighbors, friends and family. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
