Ronald Brian Maitland passed away peacefully with his family by his side January 5, 2018. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Ron is survived by his best buddy Radar, his daughter Colleen, grandson Jason, (Jenny) and family, granddaughter in law Bronte and family, daughter Angela (Doug), grandson Sheldon (Deanne) and family, granddaughter Melissa (Kyle) and family, grandson Josh, daughter Sandy (Ken), grandson Scott (Jessica), grandson Kris (Carson), grandson Derek, daughter Ramona (Leigh), granddaughter Serena, and granddaughter Jasmine (Jake). He is also survived by his two sisters Ives and Sandra and many nieces and nephews.
Ron was predeceased by his wife Nan, his sister Judy and his grandson Bruce.
Ron moved from Winnipeg to Nakusp as a toddler and later moved to Rossland where he grew up. He married the love of his life, Nan, in 1962. He worked at Teck Cominco for 43 years as a heavy equipment operator/truck driver. Ron loved everything outdoors and was known to be the first one to scout all the huckleberry patches. He also enjoyed target practicing, fishing and gardening. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren in all their activities from dance to baseball and hockey. Through watching his grandchildren play hockey, he became a huge fan and in his later years became a die hard “smokies” fan. Ron also enjoyed meeting “the gang” at Tim Hortons for coffee regularly.
Ron had a passion for music and taught himself to play the accordion by ear and was known to pull out his harmonica or spoons at many family events.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Warfield Community Hall on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 11:00am with Gwen Ziprick officiating; Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements. You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.
