Marina McCormick
1937-2018
At the Grand Falls General Hospital, January 2, 2018, Mrs.
Marina McCormick (nee Belanger) passed away at the age of 80
surrounded by her loving family.
Marina was born in Grand Falls in 1937 and was a daughter of
the late George and Mary-Anne « Annie » (Mockler)
Belanger. She married the love of her life, Neville
McCormick on October 25, 1958.
Marina graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1955 and
completed her secondary education in Fredericton from New Brunswick
Teachers’ College. She taught school full time in Grand
Falls for two years at the Sacred Heart School before leaving to
devote herself full time to raising her five children and active role
in their potato farm operation.
Besides being a devoted wife and mother, Marina enjoyed
volunteering for the Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke
Foundation. She was also a member of the C.W.L. for many
years.
Marina was predeceased by her brother, George Jr. Belanger
(late Louise Scalzo) and her sister Barbara (late Joseph
Dumond).
Besides her husband, she is survived by her five children:
Mark (Carolyn Kavanaugh) of Fredericton; Anne (Jacques Leclerc) of
Grand Falls; Michelle (Brent Hatchard) of Perth-Andover; Beth of Grand
Falls and Dawn (Ian Bailey) of St. John’s, NL, nine grandchildren:
Ryan Jensen of Grand Falls; Brandon Hatchard of Fredericton; Sean
McCormick of Fredericton; Taylor Hatchard of Ottawa; Alexa Bailey of
St. John’s, NL; Alexander McCormick of Saint John; Alyssa Hatchard of
Banff, AB; Olivia N’Talaja and Noah N’Talaja of Grand Falls,
two great grandchildren, Kailey and Liam Jensen, two sisters,
Claudette (James) McManus and Judith Grant, several nieces and
nephews.
Marina’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were her
source of pride and joy and she loved each one
unconditionally.
Marina will be resting at O’Regan’s Funeral Home, 515 Everard
Daigle Blvd., Grand Falls with visiting hours on Sunday from 2-4 and
7-9 p.m.
Her funeral service will be held Monday, January 8th at 11
a.m. from St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Grand Falls (Portage),
with Father Paul Paradis, i.v.Dei, officiating. Interment
will be in the Assumption Cemetery, Grand Falls.
For those who wish, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society,
the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Diabetes Association would be
appreciated by the family.
The McCormick family would like to extend a
very special thank you to Dr. Shawn Blunston for his professional and
loving care provided to our mother throughout the years. Mom
loved and respected you so much, Shawn. Also thank you to
the nursing staff at the Grand Falls General Hospital and Amanda
Savage who went above and beyond her duties to comfort Mom with the
sound of her beautiful soothing voice. Thank you to Father
Paul for comforting Mom with your Blessings and
presence.
