It is with profound sadness that the family and loved ones of Ryan Smith announce his peaceful passing on Sunday, July 7th, 2024, at the age of 35 years.
Ryan will be lovingly remembered by his partner, Craig Buchholz; his beloved best friends, Glen Vallance and David Waldner; his mother and father, Gail and Frank Smith; his brothers, Robbie Kreger-Smith and Adam Smith; his extended family including aunts, uncles, and cousins from across Canada; and countless close friends who Ryan considered to be family.
Ryan was born in British Columbia and moved to Alberta in 1995. He was naturally athletic, and excelled at almost anything he tried, including hockey, skateboarding, and snowboarding, which were among his favourite pastimes. He moved to Edmonton shortly after graduating from high school to pursue further education, where he completed a diploma in civil engineering technology at NAIT, as well as certification as a personal trainer. In his early 20s, Ryan picked up photography, a hobby which brought him great joy, a skill that he again demonstrated a natural aptitude for. His pursuit of the perfect wildlife and landscape shots took him throughout Canada, including to the Great Bear Rain Forest, a trip that he cherished for the remainder of his life. He was recognized frequently for the quality of his photography, including being published in Canadian Geographic magazine. Ryan had a deep love for music and traveled the world with many friends attending music festivals and concerts. This was the basis for many of his strongest and most enduring relationships and friendships.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Connelly-McKinley Downtown Funeral Home, 10011 114 Street. Cremation has taken place.
