Verch, Willis Donald, 89, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home on Thursday, October 26, 2017 with family at his side after a long period of illness. Verch, Willis Donald, 89, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home on Thursday, October 26, 2017 with family at his side after a long period of illness. He was born on August 28th, 1928 in Eganville, ON to August and Emma (nee Molzahn) Verch. He is predeceased by his sisters Eileen MacDonald (Garry), Dorothy Bramburger (Richard), Ruby Hein (George) and brothers Clarence, Burton, Gordon, and Welland Verch. Survived by his sister Doreen (Garry) of Eganville and sister-in-law Shirley (Welland) Verch of Huntsville.
He will be greatly missed by his loving children; Lois (John) Prionas and Ron (Robin) Verch. He will be remembered with much love by his grandchildren; Tonya (Brad) Taylor, Kristin (Craig) McCrea, Sean Verch, George (Sharon) Prionas and Dr. Matthew (Megan) Prionas and his great grandchildren; Sara, Braden, Riley, Tyler, Kennedy, Christian, Parker and Anastasia.
Willis served many years in the Royal Canadian Air Force, traveling to almost every country in the world. Although to young to serve in the Second World War, he was a veteran of the Korean War. During his military career he earned several medals, including the United Nations Emergency Force Medal, Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Medal 1977, Canadian Forces’ Decoration and Clasps and Loadmaster Badge. He ended his military career serving as a CO of the Trenton Air Cadet Camp.
Willis loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. In the mid 1980s he was involved in the successful exchange of Canadian moose for Michigan turkeys. Willis loved spend time at the cottage at the lake. His favourite trips were to hockey arenas to watch his grandson and great grandson play hockey.
Visitation will be held at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 516 Victoria Ave., Belleville on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm with funeral ceremony to immediately follow at 2 pm. Pastor Rob Wiesner officiating. Interment to follow at Whites Cemetery, Trenton (Bayside). Reception to follow at the church. Arrangements in care of Weaver Family Funeral Home – West, 170 Dundas Street, Trenton.
