William Ray Lockwood
1924-2017
It
is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our Dad, Bill on
June 17, 2017 at the Veterans Health Centre, Moncton,
N.B.
Born in
Winnipeg, Bill was the son of the late Ray and Doris (Fletcher)
Lockwood. Bill enlisted in the RCNVR during WWII and served
overseas on the HMCS Gatineau.
Following the war he attended the University of
Manitoba and graduated with a B.Comm in 1949.
Bill spent
most of his business career with the T. Eaton Co. Catalogue Division
starting out his career in Winnipeg.
He was
later transferred to Toronto and then to Moncton where he was
Catalogue Manager for the Maritimes until its closure in 1976.
Bill is survived by his two
daughters Janet (Wayne) Steeves of Hillsborough and Valerie (Ron)
Crawford of Lower Coverdale, granddaughter Melanie Shaw (Rob Edmonds)
of Riverview, grandson Mitchell (Kristy) Steeves of Lower Coverdale
and four great-grandsons Hunter and Hudson Shaw and Benjamin and Ari
Steeves. Besides his parents, Bill was
predeceased by his wife Ramona of 57 years
(2007).
Former
member of Moncton Rotary Club, Gyro Club, City Club, Elks and
Nummies. Director of YMCA, Chamber of Commerce and United
Way. Bill also served as Director
on Board of VON for ten years.
Bill was a
member of Trinity United Church in Shediac and sang in the choir at
one point. He loved to play golf, bridge, garden and spend time
with family and especially enjoyed family gatherings with
grandchildren and great grandchildren.
At
Bill’s request there is no visitation or funeral
service. Cremation has taken place and a private family
service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of
Tuttle Brothers & Riverview Funeral Home. 214 Pine
Glen Rd., Riverview (506) 857-8564.
Donations to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital or
the Veterans Health Centre 65 War Veterans Avenue, Moncton would be
appreciated.
We cannot
begin to express our gratitude to the Veteran’s Health
Centre where Dad has resided since October 2015.
The
veterans are treated with love and respect and the staff are very
special people. We would also like to thank
Dad’s friend Heather Jakeman for her dedication to Dad as
well as to Rev. Roland Hutchinson and others who continued to visit
Dad over the years. Dad was a wonderful person
always known as the “Gentleman” even by the nursing home
staff. He will be forever loved and
missed.
