Bill passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side at The Brant Centre, Burlington, on Monday, July 17, 2017 in his 81st year. Beloved husband to wife Verna (Spurr) having just celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary. Loving father to Debbie Rauch (Martin) and Nancy Lavergne. Cherished Grandpa to Shannon Carruthers. Born at Lake of the Woods, Kenora ON, Bill enjoyed the great outdoors and particularly fishing. He was a keen, competitive sportsman who participated in hockey, curling, rowing and golf. Bill was employed within various Credit Unions and franchises until the onset of Muscular Dystrophy. His love of Bridge became his new passion and he achieved his Life Masters and was also an Accredited Bridge Instructor.
Special thanks to Dr. Harpal Singh and the staff at The Brant Centre for providing excellent care for Bill over the past seven years. In the final few days of Bill’s life, the attention towards family was greatly appreciated.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 1371 Elgin Street, Burlington, on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 2 PM. Interment at St. Luke’s Church Yard. Friends are also welcome to join us at the reception and visitation to follow at approximately 3 PM in The Parish Hall. For those who wish, donations in memory of Bill to Muscular Dystrophy Canada would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
