It is with sadness that we announce the
peaceful passing of Walter Bird Newcombe,
age 87, of Amherst. Walter passed away on Thursday, November
16, 2017 at Gables Lodge where he has happily spent the past 5 1/2
years. He has enjoyed the camaraderie and many
friendships he had among the staff and residents of Gables
Lodge.
Born in Brookdale, NS, he was the son of
the late Almon and Bessie (Bird) Newcombe.
His career spanned working for CPR, then
Dorchester Penitentiary. After retiring, he made a new
career in the antique business. We will always remember his
kindness, generous spirit and clever wit.
He will be dearly missed by his sisters
Marie McBrien, Amherst, NS, Jean Siddall, Lorneville, NS; nieces
Elaine (Ernest) Fage, Hastings, NS, Pauline (Francis) Verstraten,
Lorneville, NS, Brenda (Alan) McGee, Barrie, ON, Ruth (Scott) Murray,
Moncton, NB; grandnieces and nephews Jillian, Isaac, Adam Fage,
Christiane, Robert and Teressa Verstraten, Andrew and Jack McGee,
John-David and Calum Murray; great grandniece and nephews Kaya, Orion,
Caden and Clark Fage as well as many cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased
by nephew Douglas McBrien.
Arrangements have been entrusted to
Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church
St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). At Walter’s request, there
will be no visitation or funeral.

memory may do so to the charity of your choice.
