Mom was born near Canora, SK on August 29, 1936, the eldest of 4 children to Walter and Doris Gurski. She spent her childhood on the farm working alongside her father where she developed a love for horses.
On September 10, 1958, she married Ed Yurkiw and relocated to Yorkton, SK where they started a family. After moving to Roblin in 1973, Vicky was a fulltime homemaker for her family and always had some project underway inside the house or out. She wasn’t afraid to use a hammer or a paintbrush as the house underwent many renovations and redecorating over the years. Her pride and joy was her flower garden where she tended a variety of lilies, roses, peonies and other fruit trees. She kept her bird feeders filled all year long as she loved her various feathered friends.
Mom was very active with her many hobbies, such as gardening, baking, cooking, sewing, crocheting, creating many beautiful quilts and afghans. Her hands were never idle and she loved to be surrounded by her many bundles of wool that she used to crochet prayer shawls for others. Throughout her years, mom enjoyed the affection of her dogs, and in later years, “Mitsy” and “Charlie” were her faithful feline companions. She was a dedicated supporter of the Humane Society and had numerous photo sessions with her pets in various settings.
Left to cherish her memory are, husband Ed; son David (Doris) Amanda, Daniel; daughter Susan (Dave Yeroschak), Savannah, Sydney, sister Anna Derksen and nephews Stuart Derksen, Kevin and Kelvin Gurski.
Vicky was predeceased by her parents, her sister Julie in 2009, brother Steve in 2011 and by her youngest son Dean.
The family wishes to thank the Community Health, Roblin Hospital and Gilbert Plains Health Centre staff for all their care and compassion over the past years.
