Victoria Vicky Popowich Fontaine 2017

2017
A golden heart stopped beating. It is with profound sadness that the family announces the death of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (baba), Victoria (Vicky) Fontaine on December 19, 2017. Mom was born on March 17, 1924 in Komarno, Manitoba. Though a true Ukrainian, Mom was proud to celebrate her St. Patrick’s Day birthday. It was with both pride and sadness that Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mom was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Leo, in 1983, first-born son, Wayne, in 2000 and granddaughter, Laura, in 1975.
Mom leaves to cherish her memory her son Rick (Joanne), daughter, Jan, granddaughters, Heather (Mark) Leclerc and April (Chris) Goodman, as well as great grandchildren, Allyson and Nathan Leclerc and Sarah Goodman.
In her younger years, Mom enjoyed travelling to New Jersey to visit Wayne, Grand Forks, Las Vegas and Shooting Star, those being among her favourites. Any casino or shopping trip south of the border – usually on a bus accompanied by her sister-in-law, Cis, was always memorable. When travelling became too difficult, Mom turned her attention to knitting slippers for family and friends and doing word search puzzles. She also loved watching TV and had quite a diverse taste in her choice of television shows, everything from bull riding, the Y & R, Criminal Minds, Forensic Files and wedding shows. In the last year Mom also became a Winnipeg Jets Fan, though she never did really understand the finer points of hockey. Mom also waited eagerly for summer to sit on her balcony and listen to her ‘records’. She loved music and often sang along.
Though Mom never wanted to be the centre of attention, the family would like to celebrate her life with a memorial to be held Friday, December 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish Basement Hall at 778 Archibald Street. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held later.
In lieu of flowers, should you desire, you may make a donation in Mom’s name to a charity of your choosing.
Mom – you were loved by all and you will be greatly missed and remembered always. We were truly blessed to have you in our lives for as long as we did. Everyone who knew you will never forget you.
