Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory of Mary Morton
After a courageous battle with cancer, Mary passed away peacefully, with family by her side, at Southlake Regional Health Centre. Beloved wife, of 61 years, to the late James William (Jim) Morton. Loving mother to Bob (Jeanne), Jan (Murray), Patty (Ed) and Dave (Joan). Adoring Grandma to James, Emily, Patrick, David, Billy, Jenn and Katie. Great-Grandma to Weston.
Mary loved a good party. She and Jim had a lively social life and loved getting together with their close circle of life-long friends.
Mary loved to play Bridge and looked forward to hosting and attending her Bridge Club evenings together.
During the winter months, Mary was an avid curler and was a long time member of the Avonlea Curling Club. Summers were spent at the cottage with friends and family in Muskoka. Mom was always seen shuffling the kids to hockey, figure skating, baseball, soccer or riding stables. She was our head cheerleader.
Mary divided her time between raising her family; as a volunteer supporter for the Canadian Cancer Society; executive board member of her curling Club, and all around good friend to anyone who knew her. She was chatty, personable and always fun to be around. Ever stoic during her long illness, she was always generous with smiles and kind words. She will be profoundly missed by her family.
Special thanks to the nurses and caregivers at The Roxborough Retirement Residence, Newmarket.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at The Roxborough Retirement Residence, 1 Roxborough Road, Newmarket on January 5th, 2018, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or Stronach Regional Cancer Centre would be greatly appreciated.
