Obituary for Velma Bauer
Velma Christine Bauer of Bow Island, passed away on Thursday, January 26th, 2017 at the age of 85 years. Velma leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Anita (Don) Palmer of Lethbridge and Barbara (Rick Godlien) Bauer of Moose Jaw; four grandchildren, Lisa (Dan) Scott of Coalhurst and their children Jayden and Jessica, Jennifer Palmer of Lethbridge and her children James and Jackson, Curtis Ruetz of Calgary, and Blaine Salahub of Medicine Hat; one brother, Glen Jahraus of Armstrong, BC; two sisters, Ella (Merle) Nelson of Burdett and Lois (Don) Miller of Sherwood Park; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Velma was predeceased by two brothers, Vernon and Ralph Jahraus; her sister in infancy, Enid May Jahraus; Anita’s father, Eddie Masson; Barbara’s father, Karl Bauer; and Ken Brost. Velma was born on a farm outside of Maple Creek on May 16th, 1931. She was raised and educated in Piapot taking her final two years of high school in Oliver, BC and Medicine Hat. She was a very hard worker accepting whatever job was available, eventually working her way up in the Imperial Bank of Commerce and ending her working career at the Alberta Linseed Oil Company. Velma will be remembered for her beautiful handiwork and incredible gardens (winning many awards at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede).
