Thomas

Passed away peacefully, with a smile on his face after a full and wonderful life, on July 19, 2017 in Vancouver, B.C. at the age of 83. Thomas was born in West Limerick, Ireland on May 2, 1934, and raised in Pallas, Kilmeedy. Thomas arrived in Canada in 1952, then went back to Ireland to marry and return in 1962 with his beloved Irish bride, Elizabeth Mary (nee O’Keeffe) to raise four delightful children together.
Thomas will be missed by his devoted children John (Kathy), Mary, Thomas, and James (Valeria); sisters Norah Moore and Teresa O’Sullivan; brothers in-law John, Jimmy, Pat and Frank (Eileen) O’Keeffe, Patrick Fitzgibbon, sister-in-law Sheila (Brian) Mahon; grandchildren Matthias, Kelleigh, Patrick, Kristiann, Emily, Elizabeth, Michael and Thomas; nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces throughout Canada, USA, Ireland and England.
Thomas is pre-deceased by his wife, Elizabeth Mary (1995), parents Thomas (1948) and Deborah (nee Lawlee) (1984), siblings John (2014), James (2007), Josie Keogh (1998), and Debbie (Ciss) McCarthy (2007).
Tom’s Apostolic work with the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Vancouver and throughout Canada was legendary. He was a life-long member of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association of the Sacred Heart, and Honorary President of the Vancouver Irish Sporting and Social Club (Gaelic Athletic Association), and enjoyed his social involvement with the St.Paul’s Singles Club for many years. Tom always offered a warm and generous welcome to friends & family and engaged with benevolent spirit in all his chosen causes, and was loved by all who met him.
Prayers will be held on Sunday, July 23 at 7:30 pm at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (2881 Main St. Vancouver, BC) where Thomas served his parish in a variety of capacities for 55 years. All are welcome to join family for a light reception in Shamrock Hall following Prayers.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s on Monday, July 24 at 10:30 am. All are invited for refreshments in the Shamrock Hall following Mass.
Great appreciation for the kind care over the past year at St. John’s Hospice at UBC and at South Granville Park Lodge. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the ‘Betty O’Flynn Memorial Bursary’ of the St. Vincent DePaul Society is preferred.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Thomas
