Obituary Overview
Thomas Kimber
Kimber, Thomas – Born December 16, 1944 in Halifax (Hydrostone neighborhood), he was the son of Thomas W. Kimber and Dorothy Stanhope Kimber (both deceased). He was pre-deceased by his wife Helen (Gates) Kimber and brother Robert (Bobby) Kimber. He is survived by his daughters Deborah Robinson (husband Brian) of Edmonton and Janet Kimber of Toronto; two grandchildren Michelle and Alexander Robinson; common-law partner Ruth Turner; and siblings James (Jim) Kimber, Anne King (husband Douglas) and George Kimber (wife Corinne); as well as many nieces and nephews. Tom served three years in the navy on HMCS Bonaventure, and 31 years in the Halifax Dockyard as a mechanical fitter repairing ships and submarines. He died after a two-year battle with leukemia that he felt was the result of his work-place industrial exposure to various chemicals and pollutants. Tom owned a camp on College Lake in Dean settlement that he loved very much, and that he shared many good times with family and friends. He loved hunting, fishing and chopping wood; and the times he spent with his buddies doing the same. He will be sadly missed. Special thank-you to the staff at Dartmouth General Hospital and Parkland At The Lakes for the great care they provided over the past few months. One of the special memories Tom’s family wants to share at this time was his passion for directly and anonymously helping individuals and families during the Christmas season, who were struggling with financial, sickness or other hardships. Each Christmas season, he asked around his circle of family, friends and neighbors; to find deserving people truly in need. He then arranged for a direct cash gift, enough for Christmas dinner and gifts for the entire family (especially the children), and anonymously signed it “from your Christmas Angel”. So, in lieu of flowers or donations to formal charities, please consider becoming your own Christmas Angel this year in Tom’s memory.
The family is hosting a “Celebration of Life” gathering at Atlantic Funeral Homes, Dartmouth Chapel, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth Nova Scotia on Saturday, November 11th starting at 2:00 PM. Everyone who knew Tom is welcome to attend.
