Obituary for Stephen Rhodenizer
It is with great sadness that the family of Stephen Christopher Rhodenizer, 52, of Lunenburg, announces his passing on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.
Born in Halifax, he was a son of Terry and Florence Rhodenizer of Halifax.
Stephen moved to Lunenburg with his parents in 1976. From a young age Stephen, like his father, enjoyed both curling and golf – so much that he made both sports his career. In 1982, Steve represented Nova Scotia at the Canadian Pepsi Junior Championship with team mates Kent Saunders, Todd Mayo, Michael Myra and coach Bob Mayo in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
Steve met Lucille, the love of his life, at Bluenose Golf Club in 1987, and with her came his daughter, Angela. Stephen was a dedicated son, husband, father & grandfather. He was known by many names, such as “Steve”, “Rhody”, even “Mr. Steve” but the name he loved to be called the most was “Poppy”
Steve dedicated 40 years to the Bluenose Golf Club, and 28 years to the Lunenburg Curling Club. His dedication to work began at the young age of 12, with his first job delivering the Chronicle Herald for Mr. Lee Harnish. Mr. Harnish always praised his work ethic and still occasionally reminisces with his father, about what a fine boy Stephen was. His time at the golf club and curling club was work, but it was really a labor of love. He was meticulous and took enormous pride in both clubs – and it truly showed.
Becoming a grandfather was Steve’s favorite accomplishment – he loved his grandsons, Owen and Nathan dearly. They loved their sleepovers with Poppy and were always sent home with a peanut butter cup in their pocket.
Steve was loved and appreciated by all who knew him. That great smile of his will forever be missed but always in our hearts.
