Obituary

Sheldon Carl Peake of Pollockville, Alberta passed away the morning of Friday, January 27 at the Brooks Health Centre. Carl is survived by his 3 daughters; Laureen Peake Nielsen, Joscelyn Peake Stangowitz and Joanna Peake.
Sheldon Carl Peake was born June 7 1953, in the Bassano hospital. His mother Cassie, and father Richard Peake lived on a farm in Gem AB. His older brother Arnold and younger brother Stratton lived there until they moved to the ranch on the Bullpound Creek in 1963. Sheldon graduated from Cessford School and worked away for a few years before returning home. Sheldon and Debbie Gillespie were married on November 5 of 1977 and lived on a quarter in north Gem. In 1980, while expecting their first child, they traded places with Sheldon’s parents, Richard and Cassie and continued the ranching legacy along side his brother Stratton and wife Adrienne Peake. Debbie and Sheldon had three girls, Lauren (1980) Joscelyn (1982) and Joanna (1985). He taught the girls to do all that needed done and liked to tell them they were the best crew he could ask for. In 2001, Sheldon decided that Manitoba was the place to be and bought a second Ranch out there to run yearlings on in the summer. Up until 2012, Debbie and Sheldon spent winter in Alberta and summer in Manitoba. Many, wonderful friendships were forged with the neighbours and community members around Russell MB, truly a second home. Sheldon faced utter heartbreak when Debbie passed in 2012. After the loss of Debbie, Sheldon took take a step back from the ranch and started a new chapter in his life. He took great pride in passing the Ranch to the next generation. Sheldon, now having more spare time, spent some fun filled months in Arizona. Old and new friends and great memories were treasured by Sheldon. The next winter he travelled out across the pacific to explore out Australia and that is where he met Bobbie. Over the next two years they spent much time together, and she lent him her strength to face the diagnosis of cancer. Her presence, along with the great joy he derived from children and six grandchildren helped him travel the last part of his road with much positivity and grace. Sheldon is survived by his brother Stratton Peake, daughters Lauren Nielsen (Lars Nielsen) Joscelyn Stangowitz (Kevin Stangowitz) Joanna Slorstad (Carson Slorstad). And his six grand children, Liam and Lane Nielsen, Kira and Joel Stangowitz, and Samantha and Sally Slorstad.
The family will be having a memorial service at the Hardgrass Hub in Pollockville on February 3, 2017 at 1pm with beef on a bun to follow. In lieu of flowers, can be made to the Berry Creek Ag Society.
