Ruth Cowan

Ruth Cowan, of Hanover, passed away at Hanover and District Hospital, on Friday, June 23, 2017. She was 93.
Born on July 29, 1923 in Brant Township to the late Charles and Annie (nee Rahn) Fischer. Ruth was a R.N. and X-Ray Technician, becoming head of the department, being employed with the Hanover & District Hospital for 39 years. Continuing her love of helping and serving others, she was involved with Meals on Wheels and an active member in her church and serving in the choir. She was a dedicated and faithful woman with a heart of gold.
Survived by husband William “Bill” Cowan of Hanover. Loved by her God daughter Pauline (David) Sewell of Guelph, sisters in law Marion Elliott (Harvey) of Listowel, Dorothy Cowan of Brampton. Fondly remembered by her nephew Jeffery (Judy) Boylan, nieces Lorrie (Paul) Runge both of R#3 Hanover, Katherine (Ken) Taylor of Brights Grove, Patricia (Mitch) Granter of Listowel, Marcia (Don) Vollmer of Dallas Texas, and Sheryl Cain (Derek Asselstine) of Stratford. Great aunt of 18 great nieces and nephews and 8 great great nieces and nephews. Ruth will be remembered by Gary (Carol), Cheryl, Mary (Brian) Rahn and her dear friends Morris and Theresa Leifso. Predeceased by her sister Lillian and a sister in infancy, sister in law Luella Boylan VanEck (Charles Boylan, Marinus VanEck), brother in law Lorne Cowan and nephew William Elliott.
Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Visitation on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at St. Matthew’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Hanover from 10 am until time of a Memorial Celebration Service at 11 am. Rev. John Polacok officiating. Cremation has taken place with inurnment in Hanover Cemetery.
Memorial donations to St. Matthew’s Ev. Lutheran Church or to the Hanover & District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
