Ronald Gordon Gear
Florence
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, son, and brother, Ronald Gear, 62, of Florence, who passed away peacefully at his home on October 12, 2017.
Born in Sydney Mines on July 25, 1955, he was the son of Kathryn Gear (Carl Jessome) and the late Gordon Gear.
Ronald worked as a Commissionaire at Marine Atlantic, and was an Honorary Firefighter, after 20 years of service with the Florence Volunteer Fire Department. He took great pride in his work, and was well respected by his fellow co-workers. Ronald loved his annual trips down south with his friends, as well as his getaways to his family’s cabin in Middle River. He had a great love for his four-legged Grand Dog, Andy, who was with him until the end, and a lasting devotion for his favourite hockey team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
In addition to his mother, he will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Denise Gear, who he thought of, and treated like a queen, his daughter Nicki Gear (Paul Bushell), who was his pride and joy, and his son Gordon Gear (Shelby Schmidt), who he could not have been more proud of.
Ronald is also survived by his brothers, Bernie (Paulette), Brian (Susan), Glen (Ruth), as well as his sisters, Linda (Joseph Bishop) and Edna (Scott Erickson), his mother-in-law Frances Bradley (Ernie Tremblett), as well as his sisters-in-law, Debbie Leyte (Bob McNeil) and Tracy (Brad McLellan). Ronald also had a special place in his heart for two of his nieces, Taylor and Emma Forrest, who he thought of as his granddaughters.
Besides his father, Ronald was predeceased by his father-in-law, Bert Bradley, grandparents James and Gertrude Gear, as well as Mabel and Ronald Rasmussen.
The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to a special nurse, Michelle Finney.
A memorial service celebrating Ronald’s life will be held in Carman United Church, Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines, on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. A reception will take place in the church hall, following the service. As your expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice/Palliative Care Foundation, or the Cape Breton Cancer Centre. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
