He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Brock (Corinna), Ashley, Joel and Jonathan and great granddaughter, Ava Judith, many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Born in New York, NY, Bob spent his childhood in Rangoon, Burma followed by India, attending St. Peter’s boarding school in Panchgani. His parents, Cecil and Anna Dark, were Salvation Army Officers stationed in Pune. During World War II, Bob joined the Royal Indian Navy and served as a Lieutenant. After the war, Bob moved to Kingston, ON where he married Mae McBride and together they enlisted as officers in the Salvation Army. They served in Oakville, ON and later in Bermuda. Upon returning to Canada, Bob and Mae settled in Kingston, ON with their two daughters, where Bob spent 35 years working at Alcan. Bob and Mae continued to serve faithfully at the Salvation Army Kingston Citadel, where he was the YP band leader and active in the community, including being a proud member of the Burma Star. In his retirement, Bob and Mae enjoyed many happy winters in Clearwater, FL. Bob had a contagious zest for life and was an avid sailor and soccer player well into his 80s. He never missed an opportunity to make others smile, especially his grandchildren. He dedicated his life in service to others through the Salvation Army and his many community connections. Bob’s life represents his dedication to God, his family, friends, The Salvation Army and his country. “Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord” Matthew 25:23. Bob’s family would like to express our sincere thanks to the staff of Trillium Retirement and Trillium Ridge for their kindness and caring professional service to Bob over the past couple of years.
