Robert Bruce Rogerson - 1951-2017

Robert Bruce Rogerson
1951-2017
Robert Bruce Rogerson passed in love and peace on March 14,
2017, in Fredericton, NB. Born in Halifax, NS, on September 1, 1951,
he is the son of the late Marie and James Rogerson. Bruce is
survived by wife Deborah (nee MacArthur), daughter Sarah (Andy), son
Tom (Jen), grandchildren Kaitlin and Joey, brother Jimmy (Ellen), a
host of aunts and uncles, and in-laws and
nephews.
Bruce joined the RCMP in 1974 and retired in 2009 as
Assistant Commissioner of Technical Operations. After graduation from
training in Regina, SK, he worked in Liverpool, Cole Harbour and
Halifax, NS, before being posted to Ottawa, ON, Fredericton, NB, and
finally a swansong return to Ottawa.
In 2010, he came back to Fredericton to work for six years as
the Director of Security at the University of New
Brunswick.
He earned in 1984 a Bachelor of Economics degree from St.
Mary’s University and, in 1986, a Public Administration
Diploma from Dalhousie University before going on to achieve
specialized policing certificates and diplomas. Bruce’s
distinguished 35 year career with the force has been honoured with the
20 year Long Service Medal, 25 year Bronze Cross, 30 year Silver
Clasp, 35 year Three Gold Clasp and a Commander’s
Commendation.
Bruce was devoted to his work but his commitment to his
career can’t hold a candle to his undying love and care for
his family, most especially his guiding light and wife of 41
years.
He has been there for us every step and breath of the way,
putting forward the lighter side of everything, cheering us on during
the day and kissing us good-night. Bruce always put us first and
supported us in every one of our aspirations and ambitions, from
athletic to academic and all points between and beyond. He drove us
around to our activities, both close to home and far away, and he
drove us all to be our best.
With signature humour, cheerful wry wit, trademark twinkle,
kindness, boundless enthusiasm and generosity, Bruce has brightened
the lives of those he loved who, in return, so loved
him.
He is greatly missed and fondly remembered.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home,
160 York St., Fredericton, on Wednesday, March 22, from 2-4 and 7-9
pm. A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Dunstan’s
Catholic Church on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 12:05 pm with Fr. Bill
Brennan as celebrant. Interment will take place in the spring
following a service to be held in Halifax, NS. Donations in
Bruce’s memory can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of
Greater Halifax (or any other chapter) or to a charity of the
donor’s choice.
