Robert Bob Daniel Ravnsborg - August 16

Robert Bob Daniel Ravnsborg – August 16, 1930 – July 8, 2017 (age 86)

The family of Bob Ravnsborg is saddened to announce his sudden passing on July 8, 2017. Robert Daniel Ravnsborg was born August 16, 1930 to Jacob and Lydia Ravnsborg and was raised on the farm in the Asker community east of Ponoka. Bob married Margaret Pugh on April 11, 1958 and continued farming, first in the Asker community, and then in the Calumet district with his dad, and then with his sons, until they moved to town in 1990. Bob loved sports and played both hockey and baseball in his younger years. His sport later changed to curling and he was a very active member of the Calumet Curling Club starting with the construction in 1953 to the conversion from natural ice to artificial which entailed installation and maintenance of the ice making plant as well as the renovation of the building to make room for “Sheet 3″. Not to mention, of course, actually enjoying the facility and curling at least once a week and participating in numerous men’s bonspiels over the years. Both before, and especially after he could no longer physically participate actively in sports, watching them on TV was an important part of his life.
Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marg; brother Glenn Ravnsborg (Dee) of Brooks; children Dawn Padgham of Ponoka, Rob (Nancy) Ravnsborg of North Dakota, and Blaine (Melaney) Ravnsborg of Ponoka; 9 grandchildren: Lance, Jay (Shar), Wade (Cassy), and Craig (Amber) Padgham, Evan, Brandean, and Riley (Becca) Ravnsborg, and Danielle (Craig) Weiler and Tyler Ravnsborg; 10 great-grandchildren: Austin, Courtlyn, Ariel, Ryder, Chance, Kaelyn, Paisley, Jack, Jared, and Ethan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Sharon Albers, John Kocyba, Betty Bonnett, Gwladys Krossa, Glyn & Gail Pugh, and Joe & Jean Pugh; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob was predeceased by his parents Jake & Lydia Ravnsborg; cousins (like brothers) Don and Jerry Albers; sisters-in-law Georgina Kocyba and Mary Mackie; brothers-in-law Paul Krossa and Melvin Bonnett; niece Elaine Finkbeiner; and nephews Edward Krossa and Will Armitage.
A Service of Remembrance will be held to celebrate Bob’s life at “The Pond” on the Ravnsborg Farm (Highway 53 East) at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017.
Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to S.T.A.R.S., The Stollery Children’s Hospital, or any charity of your choice.
