Richard Donovan
I am so beyond words and saddened of the news of my
Brother Richard Donovan’s passing. Thursday would have been
his 40th birthday. He was struggling for years with
depression and anxiety and PTSD and decided to take his own
life. He was the most alienated person I ever met and he was
constantly seeking to find a place for himself in the world and
despite how much people told him they loved him he just never believed
it at all.
But he was also extremely funny and capable of
recognizing beauty in people and art that most people would overlook.
I remember the day he discovered Ernest Hemingway and went into
Chapters with the name ‘Ernest Hemingway’ written on a piece of paper
uncertain whether or not they would have any of his books – my brother
had no idea that Hemingway is literally a household name in American
literature. Apparently the clerk at Chapters rolled his eyes
and led Richard to the aisle in the store that had over a dozen of his
books. Richard sheepishly grabbed ‘Farewell to Arms’ and
read it 3 times in row. I also remember how often his eyes
would fill up with tears when we were kids because he used to have a
lot of difficulty speaking after our parents dramatic
separation, he would stutter and repeat himself a
lot… He was always too sensitive for this world and I know
that he is in peace now. I love you Richard. –

Richard is survived by his sister Mia and his father
Mike Donovan.
Funeral Service
will be held at the Tiferes Israel Synagogue (56 Steadman Street) on
Monday, May 15, 2017 at 1:00 pm. The burial will follow the service at
Congregation Tiferes Israel Cemetery in Dieppe.
A memorial will be
held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 4:00 pm at his beloved Laundromat
Espresso Bar on 382 St George
Street.
