Obituary for Rev. James “Jim” Weir
Reverend James “Jim” Roy Weir, BA-MDiv, of Kincardine, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 7th, 2017 in his 85th year.
Cherished spouse of Margaret Weir (née Fair) for 54 years.
Beloved father of Malcolm (Leslie) Weir.
Dear brother of Bill Weir of Thorndale
Missed by sister-in-law Marion (Bruce) Schmitt of Waterloo.
Remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and nephews and many friends.
Predeceased by his parents W. Roy and Mildred Weir and sister-in-law Barbara Weir.
Jim served in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. He was very active at numerous levels of the Presbytery and the Synod. He was nominated to be the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Canada in 1998.
Jim was one of the initiators of numerous community programs in Kincardine such as Meals on Wheels, and the Ecumenical Playschool. He served as a director and President for Russell Meadows Non Profit Accommodations, and was the Chaplain of the Kincardine Legion for ten years. He was a member and past president of the Kincardine Probus Club.
Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home on Sunday, November 12, from 2 – 5 p.m. The funeral service will take place at the Knox Presbyterian Church, Kincardine, on Monday, November 13, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. James Dickey and Rev. Bob Geddes officiating.
Interment, Elora Cemetery.
Memorial donations to the Knox Presbyterian Church-Kincardine (Organ Restoration Fund), Canadian Cancer Society (Leukemia Research AML) or Pension Board Presbyterian Church in Canada (Retired Ministers) or a charity of choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
Jim was a true defender of the faith and will be missed by all who knew him.
