Rebecca Elizabeth (Becky) Watson
1919-2017
The death of Rebecca Watson occurred at Windsor Court on
March 27, 2017. She was the only daughter of the late Harry
A. Watson and Mary Jewett Watson. She was predeceased by her
three brothers: John, Robert and Harry; as well as her beloved sister
in law, Dr. Barbara Robinson Watson. Born July 31, 1917, she
lived her entire life in Fredericton; spending most of it in the home
where she was born. Her early education was in Fredericton,
graduating from High School and then in 1941 from the University of
New Brunswick with her B.A. An honorary LLD was awarded by
UNB in 1986. Becky joined the staff of the Bank of Montreal
on Queen Street in Fredericton, working there for 22 years, before
being appointed the first female manager in the history of the Bank of
Montreal, at the UNB Campus Branch, working there for 19 years until
her retirement in 1982. She was a member of Saint
Paul’s United Church; the Canadian Federation of University
Women; UNB alumni – becoming their first female president;
the YMCA Endowment Board and had served on the Chamber of
Commerce and as Treasurer of the United Way. Rebecca is
survived by her six nephews and nieces: John A. Watson; Dr. Mary-Lynn
Watson; Reginald Watson (Mary Ann); Kimberly Watson (Sue); Elizabeth
Jill Watson; Penelope Watson Piotrowski (George); as well as great
nieces and nephews: Christopher(Amanda); Sean(Jennifer); Ian
(Victoria); Stuart; Alicia; Michael; Duncan; Lindsay; Marissa and
great-great nice Grace and nephew Jack. There will be no
visitation; but a memorial service will be held at St.
Paul’s United Church on Monday, April
10th, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Richard Bowley
officiating. For those who wish, remembrances to the Dr. Everett
Chalmers Hospital, Saint Paul’s United Church or the U.N.
B. Class of ‘41 Scholarship Fund would be
appreciated.
