Obituary for Raymond Paul “Ray” Ingram
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ray Paul Ingram, age 81, who passed away peacefully at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal on October 23, with members of his family around him. He was predeceased by his parents Leslie Ingram and Ida (nee Schiemann), and his brother Earle. Ray will be dearly missed by his sister Marj Sim and brother Jim, by his cousins Don Honnegar and Sheila Fraser and by his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and friends.
Ray was born and grew up in Ottawa. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed at Namao (Edmonton) Alberta and then Metz, France. After his stint in the Air Force, Ray returned to Canada and took a job with Federal Electric who were contractors maintaining the Distant Early Warning Line. He spent several years at one of the DEW Line stations near Cambridge Bay, NU. He returned to the Ottawa area and built his home at Lac Beauclair, PQ. For many years he owned and ran a hotel at Low, QC, which he called Ray’s Place, and later purchased and ran another hotel at Wolfe Lake, QC. He was an accomplished carpenter and electrician. In his retirement Ray maintained a magnificent garden at home, and was well-known for being a welcoming, fun host, throwing amazing dinner parties, usually accompanied by his powerful and plentiful “toonies” (martinis). A party to celebrate Ray’s life will be held next summer at Lac Beauclair.
