We sadly announce the sudden passing of our beloved Father
and Husband on Monday, April 17, 2017 of Hazel Hill at the age of 76.
He leaves behind his best friend and loving wife of 57 years, Yvonne
(Kelsie) Johnson.
Born in Canso, on April 24, 1940; he was a son of the late
Leigh and Hattie (Bennett) Johnson. He was predeceased by his
daughter, Audrey Keefe and brother, Howard Bennett. Survived by his
precious children, Doreen, Hazel Hill; Carolyn, Dartmouth;
Brenda Joy (John), Kentville; Marla (Wilmot), Stouffville, Ontario;
Ralph Jr. (Marcia), Timberlea; son-in-law, Kenny
Keefe (Sherry). He was loved dearly by his grandchildren, Jeffrey,
Barrett, Amy, Warren, Rodney, Keri, Nigel, Jarrett, Jaycus, Jada;
great-grandchildren, Madeline, Teagan and Aavah. He is also survived
by his brother, Russell Johnson and his, mother-in-law, Ellen (Kelsie)
Johnson and many nieces and nephews.
Ralph was well known for his career over the years as a Red
Seal Cook on the Lake Boats of the Great Lakes in Ontario and the
local fishing trawlers in Canso. Road construction
installing the water pipelines in Windsor and Canso. He was also a
Sanitation Foreman at National Sea Products Ltd. where he retired at
the age of 53 and could be found in his garage doing what he liked
best; having a snit and BBQ and feeding the birds out of his hands.
Ralph was a member of the Marine Riders Motorcycle Club, Canso and
loved to travel extensively with his wife and friends camping along
the way. He will be missed by many for his kind words and ability to
always leave you with a smile on your face.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 22 from 2-4 and
6-8 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral service
will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23in the United Baptist Church,
Canso with Rev. David Wheeler officiating. Burial in Fourth Hill
Cemetery, Canso. Memorial donations may be made to War Amps
Canada or IWK Children’s Hospital, charities which Ralph
