Obituary Overview
Phyllis E. Robertson
With sadness, the family of Phyllis Emma Robertson announces her passing on Monday, November 20, 2017 at the age of 90, at the Good Shepherd Villas in Prince Albert, where she had resided for the past several years. Phyllis was born in Regina, one of a set of identical twins, to Emma and David Couttie. She was raised with one brother and five sisters. Phyllis graduated from Scott Collegiate in Regina and as a young woman made her way to Prince Albert, where she worked as a telephone operator. It was in Prince Albert that she met Alex Robertson, the love of her life. They married in 1955 and embarked upon a 55 year adventure together which took them all over the northern part of two provinces as part of Alex’s job with the Hudson Bay Company. They raised 4 children and it has been said that Phyllis was the driving force in their decision to move to La Ronge to start their own business as general merchants also buying fur. La Ronge Grocery eventually became Robertson Trading Limited, and Phyllis worked every day alongside her husband at their store for 20 years, until their son Scott came back from university to take her place. Upon her retirement, Phyllis enjoyed travel, her cabin, her friends, and her family, especially the grandchildren. She was a woman of deep faith with a keen sense of justice. She took in stray dogs and stray kids and would literally give to another in need the clothes off her back. She was a strong woman in all things; she demanded the best of herself and others. She faced many grave health issues in her life but never let them get the best of her. She was an inspiration to those who knew and loved her. In the past few years, she was looking forward to being reunited with her dear husband and often wondered why she was still here. Family members used to joke that she might be ready for Heaven, but maybe Heaven wasn’t ready for her yet! Now they are together again. Phyllis is survived by her loving family, including her sons: Ivan (Diane) Robertson and their children Kimberly, James, and Anna; Scott (Karen) Robertson and their children Alexandra (Eric Bjorge), Jayne (Alex McTeer), and Angus; Tim (Brenda Hemmelgarn) Robertson and Tim’s son Micheal (Gina) and their children Ethan and Alex; her daughter: Heather (James) Stempien and their children Claire, Maia, and Elijah; her sisters, Muriel (Alex) Pogany and Brenda (George) Goff, as well as her nieces, nephews, and many, many good friends. She was predeceased by her husband Alex Robertson, her parents David and Emma Couttie, her brother Roy, and three sisters, Doris, Bunny, and Jean. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the La Ronge Alliance Church with interment to follow at the La Ronge & District Cemetery. It is the family’s request that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Phyllis’ name to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 104-2301C Ave N, Saskatoon SK S7L 5Z5. Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Lac La Ronge Funeral Home in La Ronge, SK, 306-425-3666, Debra Klassen, Funeral Director, and River Park Funeral Home in Prince Albert, SK, 306-764-2727, Don Moriarty, Funeral Director.
