Nancy Melville (nee Law) Love – February 5, 1927 – June 11, 2017

It is with great sadness that our family announces the death of Nancy Melville Love. Nancy turned 90 on February 5th, and died on June 11, 2017. She was born in Toronto and grew up on her father’s Provincial Experimental Fur Farm near Kirkfield Ontario. The family moved to the Town of Mt Royal in 1934, where she met many of her lifelong friends. While studying to become a primary school teacher, she met her beloved husband and best friend of 54 years, Bob Love. The two decided in 1953 to move west for a year – starting in Fruitvale and then Trail for 20 happy years, raising their 4 children. Every summer was spent at their wonderful cottage at Christina Lake. In 1972 the Loves moved to beautiful Victoria BC, where Nancy and Bob adopted Cadboro Bay United as their new church home. Nancy was a lifelong committed volunteer. She helped to found the church’s Casserole Ministry, as well as supporting Victoria’s Transition House, the Red Cross and delivering Talking Books, to name a few.
Nancy had a strong social conscience, actively following politics and current affairs, often sending news clippings to family members and writing provocative letters to politicians. She had a quick wit and a sharp inquiring mind, informed by her avid reading. She was a very social person with countless interests and group activities. She loved her quilting friends, her book groups and her Bridge friends. Nancy was a wonderful cook and an enthusiastic hostess.
She will be remembered always for being welcoming, hospitable and compassionate. She had a heart of gold.
Nancy moved to Astoria at Origin in Nanaimo two years ago after suffering from a fall. Her decline in health had been gradual since then, but in spite of it all, she remained happy and positive, and was always looking for ways to help others.
The last few days were sad and difficult for the family, but she was peaceful, comfortable and without pain. She died late Sunday night with all four of her children beside her.
Nancy is predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) Love.
She is survived by her children Heather Bower, Dr. Robin Love (Deirdre), Rosemary Love (Douglas Moulton) and James Love (Karen). She also leaves her 4 grandchildren; Conor, Emma, Austin and Jackson.
Thanks to the wonderful staff at Astoria, and to Dr. Mcilwaine for their kindness and care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Victoria Transition House or to the Bob and Nancy Love Bursary at The Island Medical Program at UVIC.
Condolences may be offered to the family below
