INGLE, Muriel (Mirja Jouppi)
February 28th 1922 – December 13th 2017
Muriel Ingle, beloved wife of John Wright Ingle (1992) passed away
peacefully with her family by her side. She was a proud and loving mother
of Gayle, Heather, John and Robin. Cherished grandmother to John, Robert,
Rebecca, Melanie, Tamara, Chelsea, Lexi, Christopher, Matthew and
Ashleigh. Great Grandmother to Liandra, John, Daniel, Katherine, Derek,
John, Lauren, Ashleigh, Thais, Sjorland Nathanial, Jonas, Trinity, Nadia,
and Ian. Our mother lived many lives during her time on this planet as a
wife and young
mother, seamstress, Girl Guide Captain, artist, poet, partner in an insurance
company, accountant, insurance agent, grandmother, leader, mentor,
socialite, great-grandmother and strong business woman. She was a world
traveller and enjoyed meeting new people everywhere.
Muriel immigrated to Canada from Finland with her family when she was 2
years of age along with her older sister Mary and brother Matti, Mother
Russa Paula-Joki and Father Heiki Keski-Jouppi. They settled in Garson,
near Sudbury, Ontario in the large and growing Finnish community. The
mines in the area attracted workers from all over Ontario including her
husband John a farmer, miner and machinist. Together Muriel and John
created a lifelong bond, instilling in their growing family a drive for
success balanced with the tools to build a warm and caring heart giving
back to all those they came across in life. In 1945, Muriel and John
jointly decided to change their direction in life by leaving northern
Ontario to pursue a career in insurance. Muriel Ingle successfully became
one of the first licensed insurance women in 1946. It has been an
inspiring sight to see pictures from the 1940’s with 300+ male insurance
agents and in the foreground our mother Muriel, a petite blond woman.
Muriel and John started marketing and selling life, health and accident
insurance policies to new immigrants before there was a social health care
system in Canada. Muriel and John built a
national insurance group accomplishing many firsts, the first travel
insurance products, visitor to Canada health insurance, international
students and Canadian student health and accident plans. They were the
pioneers in special risk health and accident insurance.
Muriel was a doer, a giver, and a strong part of any community that she was
associated with. Her favorite poem is included here:
Princes & Kings
Isn’t it strange how princes and kings,
and clowns that caper in sawdust rings,
and common people, like you and me,
are builders for eternity?
Each is given a list of rules;
a shapeless mass; a bag of tools.
And each must fashion, ere life is flown,
A stumbling block, or a Stepping-Stone.

family and sorely missed by all who knew her and those she encountered
