Obituary Overview
Michael “Mike” Borhen
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, Michael “Mike” Borhen at the age of 84 on Friday, December 22nd, 2017. Dad fought hard against the ails of his body with great tenacity over the past year but he was tired and it was time to go. He will be missed.
Mike was born August 16, 1933 in a farmhouse attic near Lake Majeau, Alberta to Peter and Doris (Klem) Borhen. His years growing up in Edmonton and then on a farm near Tway, Saskatchewan during the 1930’s and 40’s had the hardships and challenges faced by many of that era. Dad completed his autobody mechanic apprenticeship at SAIT in Calgary in
1954. Work took him to many places in Saskatchewan and Alberta. For many years, he proudly owned and ran Michael’s Autobody in Edmonton and continued the love of his trade at home when he retired. Dad was an avid hunter and spent many, many hours restoring two Firebird vehicles for his daughter, Donna, and his yellow “Willy”. His favourite hat depicted in the picture was always on his head or close at hand. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and even developed a love for our many gran “cats, dogs and horses”. He loved to drive and thought nothing of hopping in his van and heading
east to Saskatchewan or south to Calgary.
Left to mourn Mike are his children, Kim (Don Garner) of Calgary, Cindy (Trevor Mikolajczyk) of Tofield, Michael (Eduarda), and Jody; his grandchildren Delane Garner, Graeme Garner, Shelby Mikolajczyk, Colten Mikolajczyk, Brandon Borhen and Megan Borhen. Mike is also survived by our mother, Pauline (Sarchuk) Borhen; his sister and her husband, Jackie (Antoshkiw) and Paul Oranchuk; his brothers and their wives, Bob (Darlene) Antoshkiw, Jim (Eileen) Antoshkiw and David Antoshkiw; and his several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Doris; his stepfather, Jacob Antoshkiw; his brothers, John Borhen, Larry Antoshkiw and Kenny Antoshkiw; and his beloved daughter, Donna.
At Mike’s request, there will be no viewing held. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Evergreen Funeral Home, 16204 Fort Road, Edmonton.
The family would like to thank the wonderful team of Unit 4C at Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital for the support and care they provided dad over the last months of his life and the wonderful staff at Extendicare Eaux Claire during his final days.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Michael Borhen 2017.source
