Maxine Cecile Onagi – 2016

A blazing star in the heavens has gone dim and we are all poorer for it. Maxine Cecile Onagi lost her short but brave fight with cancer on Sunday, December 4, 2016. Maxine (A.K.A “Peaches”) was 55 years old and lived in Regina where she was a registered nurse for over 32 years. Within Regina’s medical community, Maxine was renowned, trusted and respected. Many professional co-workers counted on her expertise and wisdom as she worked at the Plains Health Center and later at the Regina General Hospital. Maxine was a devoted wife and mother with a heart of gold and a spine of steel. Predeceased by her father, John Gettel, she is survived by her husband Harry; daughter Tara (Greg); son Cole; mother Joyce; sister Janice (Chester) and brother Perry (Kelly). She also left behind a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles as well as her extended Grandview Beach family. Max loved to travel with her family, spend her summers at the lake, feed endless treats to her daughter’s dog, Mosby, and watch her beloved Toronto Blue Jays. She touched many lives over the years and this was evident by the countless visitors that she had once she was diagnosed with cancer in August. The family would like to send special thanks to the staff of 6A at the Regina General Hospital, the staff of 3B, 3D and 3A at the Regina Pasqua Hospital and the staff at the Allan Blair Cancer Centre for taking such wonderful care of Max over these last few months. Funeral Service will take place at Christ Lutheran Church, 4825 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. A memorial gathering in her honor will take place at the Wa Wa Shrine Centre, 2065 Hamilton St., Regina, SK on Saturday, December 10, 2016 beginning at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to Regina Palliative Care Inc, 1802 McAra St. Regina, SK, S4N 6C4.
