Mary Lillian Mein – December 7th, 2016

MEIN, Mary Lillian (nee Antle)
September 21, 1924, Montreal, QC – December 7, 2016, Calgary, AB
Lillian passed away at Dulcina Hospice in Calgary on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at the age of 92 years. Beloved wife of Joe, mother of Bruce, grandmother of Connor from Airdrie, AB and aunt of Peter of Quebec. “Lil” to her family and friends, grew up in Montreal and married Joe 68 years ago. Lil was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Mabel; her three brothers Roy, Lorne and Bill; as well as her nephew, Jimmy. Lil was active in the Presbyterian Church in the town of Mount Royal, QC, serving as both an Elder and as secretary to the minister. Lil and Joe enjoyed an active social life in Montreal as members of St George Curling Club and Royal Montreal Golf club. After moving to Toronto in the 1980’s, Lil went back to work and spent many productive years with the engineering firm, SNC Lavalin from where she retired. Joe and Lil moved to Airdrie in 2000 to be closer to their grandson, Connor. Lil loved to travel and she and Joe vacationed in Spain, Italy, France and the UK to name some of their destinations, often taking their golf clubs. Winter time often found them at their 2nd home in Sugar Mill Estates in New Smyrna, FL enjoying golf with their friends. Her time with the church and other volunteer work, along with gourmet cooking and entertaining were sources of pride. Her family will miss all the superb meals she prepared.
Although she never made it to her father’s beloved birth place of Brigus, NFLD, Lil kept many of the old sayings alive in daily conversation, and her sense of humour always remained sharp. The family sincerely thanks the staff of unit 43 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital as well as the wonderful professionals and volunteers at the Dulcina Hospice for their care and compassion.
