Mary Ethel Steeves
1918-2017
Mary Ethel Steeves, 99,
of Edgett’s Landing went to be with her
Lord and Saviour on November 28th, 2017, she passed away at
the Moncton Hospital with her family by her
side.
Mary was born in Meadow, the daughter of the
late Rotsford and Lena (Beaman) Steeves.
She was a teacher and taught for five years (later supply
teaching), including at the school she had attended in Meadow, and
then Harrisville- where she met her future husband,
Ray Steeves. Mary was a homemaker and took great
pride in her home. She was an active member of the Surrey
Valley Baptist Church, having taught Sunday School, was a choir
director, was a Pioneer Girls (later Awana) leader and a
member of the Missionary Society. She played the
piano whenever needed. Her other hobbies included, knitting,
sewing and quilting, she made hundreds of quilts for those
she loved. She had a flower garden and vegetable garden and
enjoyed tending to them over the years. One of Mary’s
greatest joys in life was her family. Her advice for
happiness was to “try your best to look on the bright side of
things,” and to be at peace. “When the Lord calls
me,” she said, “I’m ready to go.” She is now
walking the streets of gold and hearing the words “Well done my
good and faithful servant.”
She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Kathleen M. Kyle
(Paul) of Edgett’s Landing; sons, Richard A. Steeves (Susan) of
Moncton and Gordon R. Steeves (Gerri) of Fredericton; grandchildren,
Brent (Valerie), Beth (Reynold), Vanessa, Melanie (Kelly), Melissa
(Tim), Jill (Pat); step-grandchildren, Sandy (Steven), Andrew
(Chantal), Tim (Megan); several great grandchildren; sister Lena
Clarke of Petitcodiac; sisters-in-law, Betty (Trecartin) Steeves of
Edmonton and Gloria Steeves of Salisbury. She will also be
missed by several nieces and nephews and by her church
family.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her beloved
husband, Raymond P. Steeves; by 3 sisters, Delia, Ada and Bertha ; 3
brothers, Fred, John, Robert and by Edward (who was like a brother to
her.)
She will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with
visitation on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. The funeral
service will be held at the Surrey Valley Baptist Church on Friday,
December 1st, 2017 at 11:00am with Rev. Wayne Johnson
officiating. Interment will be in the Green Hill Cemetery,
Edgett’s Landing, NB.
