April 01 1947 December 07 2017
The passing of Marilyn Jean Parker (nee Cummings) occurred peacefully with her family by her side at the Charlotte County Hospital on Thursday, December 7, 2017. Born in Chamcook, New Brunswick on April 1, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Robert (Ancil) and Murielle (nee Benson) Cummings.
Marilyn spent her childhood at Pearl’s Corner in Chamcook surrounded by a happy-go-lucky group of entrepreneurs, business owners, and hospitality staffers who worked in her grandmother’s store and her mother’s restaurant where she learned many lessons – both about business and about interacting with people from all walks of life. These skills served her well after her graduation from St Stephen Business College when she began a nearly 30 year career in the field of banking and personal finance at various institutions within Charlotte County.
Whether it was during her years of camping and RVing, her devotion and hard work as a cofounder of Island View Campground, her inaugural and long time membership in the International Riders Association, or on a treasured vacation south with husband Les, Marilyn made friends wherever she went. Some friendships, though – the ones based on a lifetime of shared experiences and memories, she held closest to her heart. For her, these relationships, along with her cherished family, were what gave her the greatest joy and deepest comfort.
Marilyn is survived by her husband and constant companion of nearly 53 years, Les of St. Andrews, NB, son Robb (Margot) of Fredericton, NB, daughter Dawn of St Catherines, ON., sister Donna Cummings of Fredericton, NB, grandchildren Corben, Austin, Liam, and Courtney, sisters-in-law Madeline (Herbie) Doughty of Saint John, NB, Joan (Bill) Carmont of Bayside, NB, Karen (Frank) Ferguson of St Stephen, NB, and brother-in-law Ken (Paulette) Parker of St Stephen.
A sincere and heartfelt thank you is extended on behalf of Marilyn and her family for the care and kindness provided to her by the health care professionals of Extra Mural over these last few years and, more recently, by those at the Charlotte County Hospital, First Floor and Palliative Care.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Marilyn on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 2 PM at The S. O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd.,23 Main Street, St Stephen, NB.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Charlotte County Cancer or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.mehanfuneralhome.ca
