Maria Margarete Kaiser – 1931-2017

Maria Margarete Kaiser
1931-2017
It is with great sadness that the
family of Mrs. Maria Kaiser (nee Rudolph) announces her passing on
Saturday, January 28th, 2017, at her home in
Fredericton, NB.
Maria (Rudolph) Kaiser
was born on April 3, 1931 in Bilshausen, Germany, the first child of
Heinrich and Margarete (Fahlbusch)
Rudolph.
Maria was always one to
embrace life with infectious enthusiasm and to seize opportunities as
they presented themselves. She was one of the first two girls from her
town in Germany to graduate with high honors from her high school, a
distinction required to attend university and previously reserved only
for boys. This led to her studies at University of Göttingen,
where she received a teaching degree and became a schoolteacher.
Fortuitously, to support herself while she studied, she worked as a
secretary in the Physics Department at the university, where she met a
graduate student, Reinhold Kaiser, with whom she fell in love, married
in 1957, and joined at University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. She
also found opportunities for herself at UNB, working first as a
librarian. Later, while raising her two daughters, she received a
Masters degree in German literature and accepted a position as a
lecturer in the German Department. She subsequently worked as a tax
consultant.
Through every phase of
her life, she reached out to an ever-expanding circle of friends. She
always remembered and cherished her friends, and was eager to keep in
touch with all of them. She was an avid traveller who enjoyed learning
about new places and cultures, and had even hoped to visit her old
friends and relatives in Germany one more time this summer. Above all,
she was devoted to and proud of her
family.
Maria was predeceased
in December, 2016 by her loving husband, Reinhold. She is survived by
daughters Stephanie (Jean Burnell) and Ursula (Mark Goldberg);
grandsons Christopher Burnell, Matthew Goldberg and Peter Goldberg,
and granddaughter Emily Burnell; and brothers Diethard (Agnes) and
Friedhelm (Sabine) Rudolph.
Visitation will take
place on Friday, February 3, 2017 from 3 – 6 PM at
McAdam’s Funeral Home (160 York Street, Fredericton, NB,
458-9170). A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017
at 2:00 PM at St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church with Fr. Bill
Brennan officiating, Interment will take place at the Hermitage
Cemetery at a later date.
