Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory of Marcia MacCallum
On November 5th, Marcia left this earthly realm to join a host of sinners saved by grace in the eternal realm. She was born on January 28th, 1931, the oldest daughter of Beverly and Gladys (Wilcox) Wilson of Wood Island, NB.
Her education began in a one-room schoolhouse on Wood Island. From Grade 3 (Seal Cove Elementary) on it was school on Grand Manan, NB. She graduated from high school there in 1947. She took training as a telegraph operator in Glace Bay, Kentville, Windsor, and Amherst, NS and then on to Saint John, NB where she met the love of her life, Malcolm MacCallum, of Moncton, NB.
After they were married they lived in Saint John from 1952-1963. Their four children were born in Saint John before they moved to Moncton in 1963. There a career of classroom music teaching began, accompanied by years of night and summer school classes. She earned her degree in elementary teaching from the Université de Moncton the same year her daughter, Gayden, earned her B.A. Her last two years were spent as a grade three teacher at Forest Glen School.
She was a member of the Wesleyan Church all her life and served as a volunteer in many areas – teacher, choir member, director, organist, pianist, and offering teller.
After a serious motor vehicle accident in 1984 she became the president of the NB Brain Injury Association, where she served for several years.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her youngest daughter, Carmen (1997), her husband, Malcolm (2012), her brother, Wendell (1934, died in infancy), her sisters, Dorothy (2000) and Hilda (2007). She is survived by her daughter, Gayden, sons, Beverly and Graham, two granddaughters, two grandsons, and five great-grandchildren.
The family would like to send a special thank-you to the hospital staff, especially those in palliative care at the Moncton Hospital. Your care and concern were greatly appreciated.
A service to celebrate her Life will be held at Moncton Wesleyan Church, 945 St. George Blvd. on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 2:00 pm with visitation held from 1:00 pm until time of service. A reception to follow in the church atrium.
